Role Description
The Project Engineer III is responsible for the delivery of technically sound products that meet internal and external client expectations, on time and on/under budget. They make significant design decisions with limited input by Project Manager for assigned projects, assist with marketing and business development work. They will train less experienced staff, and may assist the Project Manager on assigned projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
► As an individual contributor, uses professional judgment to direct and independently complete assigned engineering designs and work collaboratively in a team setting to provide technical lead direction on design tasks
► Actively assists the Project Manager and assigns tasks and schedules to Project Engineers I and II and project team members, answers questions, and monitors progress
► Checks the accuracy (formal and informal QA/QC) of assigned tasks completed by other engineering and technical staff
► Makes major design decisions that meet the needs of external customers, while coordinating the impact of such decisions on related project efforts
► Pro-actively identifies technical, schedule or financial issues and seeks resolution from the Project Manager and/or the client, as appropriate to the situation
► Assists the Project Manager with locality review coordination and correspondence
► Assists the Client in bidding or contractor selection if authorized by the Project Manager
► Observes construction progress, coordinates with contracting team and performs data collection for a specific project
► Responds to contractor questions and issues and prepares and issues project addendum as needed
► Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities
► Participates in the creation of engineering services proposals, including the calculation/estimation of time schedules and costs of the proposed work
► Independently communicates on technical matters with the client and locality representatives if authorized by the Project Manager
► Designs portions of a project using relevant office software, modeling and Civil 3D technology, and may train and instruct less experienced staff on use of design software
► Completes calculations using engineering formulas and skills and/or utilizes computers in order to solve problems
► Prepares specifications materials through the use of research and manufacturing catalogs to specify materials, installation, inspection and payment of items specific to a project
► Works to complete design details and plan sets
► Performs research and writes objective summary reports which are used in the completion of the project work or inspection
► Assists in the preparation of engineering and construction cost estimates
► Completes field observations in a wide array of indoor or outdoor environments and on active construction sites, inspection and data collection duties as directed by senior engineering staff.
► Communicates with client staff and internal design team as directed by senior engineering staff
► Accompany senior engineering staff to project meetings, client meetings, and governmental review meetings in a variety of internal or external settings
► Takes advantage of in-house or external software and design training opportunities that are relevant to their position
► Performs other duties as assigned

Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
► Working knowledge of Office Software (Word, Excel, MS Project, etc.)
► 4 years of relevant experience with Civil 3D software including advanced design capabilities of that software and other engineering automation tools
► Must be capable of correctly operating technical analysis and computer equipment and ability to train less experienced staff
► Must possess strong technical verbal and writing skills and be able to read technical literature and engineering plans
► Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills and be able to apply professional knowledge to the solution of both routine and non-routine tasks and engineering activities
► Is expected to develop financial project management skills through assigned project work and assigned project management tasks
► This individual must have a demonstrated ability to prepare and complete design and construction documents (or portions thereof) for the type and scale of projects relevant to the practice area in which they are employed
► Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel to project site locations,
governmental offices or other Timmons Group offices as the need may arise
Education and/or Experience
► Must have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering or scientific area
► EIT preferred
► Must possess four or more years of design/engineering experience and a demonstrated ability to complete engineering tasks in an efficient and timely manner
