The Survey Manager directs office and field personnel and communicates with office team
members, clients and contractors. Review survey documents including, plats, exhibits and
easements and legal descriptions prepared by staff members. This position requires extensive field
experience and thorough understanding of construction staking and boundary, ALTA, topographic
mapping surveys, utility designation services, aerial mapping services. The successful candidate
has an extensive understanding of robotic total stations, GPS equipment, and field data collectors.
The position includes the supervision for the preparation of ground and aerial topographic mapping
surveys, ALTA and boundary surveys, subdivision plats, easements, construction staking,
research, and other various department tasks. A major component of this position includes
scheduling of survey crews and technical support and data preparation for survey crews. The
Survey Manager must have experience and understanding of State of Ohio and local authority
survey requirements.
Primary Duties
1. Manages survey operations in order to provide delivery of complete/accurate surveying
services to owners, contractors, clients, design consultants, and design staff.
2. Schedules survey crews - Maintains and updates daily the survey schedule for field crews
and office staff. The survey schedule should be readily accessible to project managers and
other staff either by email or other means. The survey manager coordinates with the
manager of building construction staking to assign survey staff to construction projects.
3. Schedules office staff - Maintains schedule of survey office work and distributes work to
survey office staff.
4. Provides direct oversight and management of the survey field and office staff.
5. Prepares proposals and job cost estimates for topographic, ALTA, subdivision, boundary
surveys, subdivision plats, and site construction surveys. Reviews estimates and proposals
for building construction surveys.
6. Provides quality control / quality assurance tasks for the surveys including boundary,
topographic, utility surveys, subdivision plats, and ALTA surveys.
7. Maintains existing relationships and develops new relationships with clients requiring survey
services.
8. Coordinates with other departments for survey tasks of engineering projects including,
boundary, topographic, utilities, ALTA, subdivision plats, and construction surveys.
9. Recruits and hires capable office and field staff to perform survey assignments.
10. Participates in various office staff and organizational meetings.
