Senior Civil Engineer
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly capable and experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead the planning, design, and management of various large-scale civil engineering projects. The successful candidate will oversee all stages of projects, from initial feasibility studies and design to construction and closeout. This role involves supervising multidisciplinary teams, ensuring adherence to project budgets and schedules, and maintaining compliance with all industry codes and safety standards.
Key responsibilities
- Manage project teams in the design, planning, and execution of civil engineering projects for infrastructure like roads, bridges, water systems, and buildings.
- Lead the development of engineering drawings, specifications, and project proposals using software like AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
- Perform due diligence and feasibility studies for new construction sites.
- Conduct complex engineering calculations and analyses, such as geotechnical, hydraulic, and hydrologic studies.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and support staff.
- Oversee construction activities, including site inspections, to ensure compliance with plans and regulations.
- Collaborate with clients, subcontractors, and various regulatory agencies to resolve issues and ensure project milestones are met.
- Prepare and manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Ensure all projects meet federal, state, and local laws, codes, and safety standards.
- Prepare technical reports and present progress updates to clients and senior management.
Qualifications and skills
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. A Master's degree is often preferred.
- Licensure: Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
- Experience: Typically requires 5–8 years of progressively responsible civil engineering experience, with a proven track record of managing and leading projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in civil engineering design software, such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and project management tools.
- Strong knowledge of industry codes, construction standards, and regulatory compliance.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent leadership, project management, and decision-making abilities.
- Superb communication (written and verbal), problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and mentor staff.
