The Engineering Manager leads the technical execution of land development projects, providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight to engineers and designers across all phases of the customer journey. This role balances hands-on technical contributions with leadership responsibilities, ensuring each project reflects the company’s commitment to clarity, care, and accountability.
Reporting to the Principal Engineer, the Engineering Manager works in close collaboration with Project Management, Permitting, and Survey teams. They are responsible for internal task delegation, scope and schedule validation, and direct client-facing support. Responsibilities Overview
● Curate project visuals and technical elements suitable for storytelling or awards.
● Review engineering details used in marketing content for accuracy and clarity.
● Share project features or lessons that showcase craftsmanship and innovation.
● Attend and lead pre-application meetings with clients, public agencies, and regulatory bodies.
● Conduct or oversee site visits to assess design feasibility and flag technical risks early.
● Collaborate with Project Managers and Engineers to define design approach, project risks, and schedule feasibility.
● Review and refine project scopes to ensure technical completeness and alignment with internal standards. 1
● Validate project timelines and scope documents prior to kickoff.
● Prepare or review subconsultant scopes of work and technical exhibits.
● Support Project Management team in finalizing resourcing plans and
deliverables.
● Participate in internal kickoff and design alignment meetings.
● Oversee design production across all stages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) to ensure
accuracy, clarity, and adherence to internal QA/QC standards.
● Conduct milestone technical reviews and provide guidance on resolving complex
design challenges.
● Mentor Civil Engineers on design logic, technical decisions, field coordination,
and CAD/Civil 3D workflows.
● Guide the implementation of redlines and ensure cross-functional coordination
with internal and external partners.
● Coordinate with subconsultants and technical experts to integrate specialized
content into comprehensive design packages.
● Proactively identify scope gaps, permitting challenges, or technical constraints,
escalating to the Senior Engineering Manager as needed.
● Provide advanced-level construction support, respond to escalated RFIs, and
support project teams during permitting resubmissions or redesigns.
● Represent the Engineering department in project status meetings, offering
technical updates and contributing to client satisfaction.
● Time is of the Essence. Ensure projects are completed in a timely manner and
provide feedback on any time constraints.
● Identifies hour limitations from Resourcing, manages WIP creation on the project
and reviews billable efficiencies of their hours and team members on the project,
and communicates deviations from standard metrics proactively with their
manager.
● Provide continuous process improvements in all design, forms, and systems.
● Value conscientious design focuses on Client first to balance needs of the project
with cost of construction implications.
● Oversee completion and submission of as-builts and engineering closeout
deliverables, confirming accuracy and regulatory compliance.
● Participate in internal post-project debriefs to evaluate what worked, what didn’t,
and what can be improved.
Recommend updates to internal tools, templates, or QA/QC checklists to
strengthen future delivery standards.
● Collaborate with the Senior Engineering Manager and Marketing team to provide
technical insights and visuals for use in client testimonials or case studies.
● Consolidate lessons learned and client feedback to inform Engineering team
development and improve delivery processes.
