Role Overview
As a Senior Lighting Designer, you will lead the conceptualization and technical execution of innovative lighting solutions that enhance [architectural spaces / live entertainment / themed experiences]. You will act as a key visionary, translating creative intent into buildable systems while mentoring junior staff and managing high-level client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Design Leadership: Conceptualize and develop innovative lighting schemes, including fixture placement, color palettes, and specialized effects.
- Technical Documentation: Oversee the production of detailed lighting plots, fixture schedules, control system specifications (DMX/RDM, sACN), and riser diagrams.
- Project Management: Manage project budgets, timelines, and deliverables from initial concept through final commissioning and handover.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, electrical engineers, and creative directors, to ensure seamless design integration.
- Analysis & Simulation: Perform photometric performance studies and energy calculations using industry-standard tools to validate design constraints.
- On-Site Execution: Conduct site surveys, supervise installations, and lead the final aiming and programming of lighting control systems.
- Mentorship: Guide junior designers and interns, providing technical guidance and conducting peer reviews to ensure quality standards. One Lux Studio
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Lighting Design, Architecture, Theatrical Design, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 to 10 years of professional lighting design experience, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- Software Proficiency: Expert knowledge of Revit (BIM), AutoCAD, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Technical Tools: Proficiency in photometric software such as AGI32, DIALux, or LightStanza.
- Control Systems: Deep understanding of modern control ecosystems, including ETC Eos, GrandMA, or architectural networked nodes.
- Codes & Standards: Familiarity with energy codes (IECC, ASHRAE) and sustainable standards like LEED and WELL.

- IALD or LC (Lighting Certified) credentials.
- Experience with integrated "smart" lighting controls and human-centric design principles.
