Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical building systems and managing projects through all phases of design, documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration. This individual should be comfortable coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, managing project schedules and budgets, and serving as the primary point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle.
The candidate should have strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, along with excellent project management, communication, and leadership skills. The ability to mentor junior staff, ensure quality throughout the design process, and deliver projects on time and within budget is essential.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of professional mechanical engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection system design.
- Knowledge of building construction methods, engineering drafting standards, and applicable building codes.
- Experience preparing construction documents and engineering specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, for a variety of project types.
- Lead mechanical engineering projects from concept through construction administration.
- Prepare and oversee construction documents, engineering specifications, and permitting packages.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the design process.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining quality standards.
- Perform heating and cooling load calculations and equipment selections.
- Prepare engineering calculations and technical documentation required for project completion.
- Conduct quality control reviews to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Participate in site visits, field investigations, punch list reviews, and construction observations.
- Respond to contractor requests for information (RFIs), review submittals, and provide construction administration support.
- Present technical solutions and project updates to clients and project teams.
- Research applicable codes, standards, and design requirements.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers by providing technical guidance and professional development.
- Coordinate project activities with internal disciplines and external consultants.
- Assist with project proposals, engineering agreements, and project planning efforts.
- Support project billing and project management activities.
- Resolve engineering and technical challenges while maintaining project quality and client expectations.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Perform additional engineering and project-related responsibilities as assigned.
