Job Description
The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing electrical building systems through all phases of design, documentation, permitting, bidding, and construction administration. This individual should be comfortable managing multiple projects, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing technical leadership to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with applicable codes and industry standards.
The candidate should have extensive experience designing power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for commercial buildings. Strong technical knowledge, project management, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to mentor team members, collaborate with clients, and oversee quality throughout the project lifecycle.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
- Minimum of 10 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
- Experience designing power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for commercial buildings.
- Healthcare project experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), applicable building codes, and NFPA standards.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
- Excellent leadership, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical engineering projects from concept through construction administration.
- Design power distribution, lighting, lighting controls, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems for commercial and institutional facilities.
- Prepare and oversee electrical construction documents, specifications, and permitting packages.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders throughout the design process.
- Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables while maintaining quality standards.
- Perform engineering calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing.
- Prepare cost estimates and statements of probable construction cost.
- Conduct quality control reviews to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Manage permitting activities and respond to jurisdictional review comments.
- Support bidding activities, including responding to contractor questions and reviewing project documentation.
- Provide construction administration support, including reviewing submittals, responding to requests for information (RFIs), conducting site visits, and resolving field issues.
- Present design concepts and technical solutions to clients and project stakeholders.
- Research and apply electrical codes, energy codes, and regulatory requirements.
- Mentor engineers and design staff while providing technical guidance and professional development.
- Conduct project coordination meetings and facilitate communication between project teams.
- Resolve engineering and technical challenges while maintaining project quality and client expectations.
- Ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards.
- Perform additional engineering and project-related responsibilities as assigned.
