PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Team Lead works independently with thorough knowledge and skills in all survey techniques, equipment and most importantly the staff. The Team Lead plans and organizes field and office surveying work, establishes, and maintains survey records and maps, and provides technical assistance to the other members of staff as necessary.
This position requires an individual who can address clients and tasks with an open, respectful, and positive approach and will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the survey team, fostering a positive work environment and promoting teamwork.
- Take full ownership of internal and external survey projects, starting from scoping and cost estimation through to final review and reporting. Ensure that projects are well-defined, executed efficiently, and meet client requirements.
- Direct and coordinate the activities of production staff involved in data collection and processing. Oversee their work to ensure timely and accurate production of deliverables.
- Provide support at all stages of the survey process, including field staff training, fieldwork monitoring, report writing, and dissemination of survey findings. Ensure that all technical aspects of the survey are executed effectively.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients. Act as a primary point of contact, addressing client needs, providing updates, and ensuring client satisfaction throughout the project. Monitor progress and address any issues or challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.
- Prepare project schedules, assign tasks to team members, and review completed work to ensure quality and adherence to project requirements.
- Collaborate with the clients during the sales cycle. Gather project requirements, contribute to the development of delivery approaches, and assist in preparing project proposals.
- Manage the financial aspects of projects, including budgeting, cost tracking, and resource allocation, to ensure projects remain within established financial parameters.
THE ROLE:
We are actively seeking a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to join us as our Land Survey Team Lead. We are seeking a collaborative and team-oriented leader who can cultivate a positive work environment and has a proven track record of successfully completing projects on time and within budget.
This position will report to the ownership team and:
- Utilize their expertise as a PLS to lead and assist the team in preparing topographic, boundary, ALTA/NSPS Land Title, and Oklahoma Department of Transportation land surveys.
- Be willing and able to register in multiple states.
- Play a key role in field collection of survey data and overseeing equipment and field codes.
- Play a key role in processing survey data and overseeing drawing production to ensure accurate and timely project deliverables.
- Play a key role in reviewing survey deliverables and overseeing quality control reviews.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to participate in a wide range of projects, contributing to survey and engineering efforts across different disciplines.
- Establish a strong foundation for our projects by fulfilling both office-based and field-based duties as required.
- Maintain a high standard of quality, accuracy, and professionalism in all survey-related activities.
- Lead by example, build strong relationships with staff, be a trusted advisor to clients, and engage in office, civic, and professional activities.
- Assist in the development of requests for qualifications, proposals, and client interviews.
- Provide vision and strategic planning for the land survey division.
Job Requirements
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate should either have or be able to obtain a valid and active State of Oklahoma Professional Land Surveyor license and other state licensing as applicable. Candidates should possess a minimum of 10 years of combined survey-related experience, a minimum of 5 years in a management role is preferred. A four-year degree in surveying, geomatics, or a related field is preferred and highly valued alongside the required professional experience and licensing.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong problem-solving skills with a solutions-oriented approach to field and office work.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to evaluate staff to make adjustments that maximize individual effectiveness.
- Solid knowledge of surveying principles, methods, and use of required field surveying equipment.
- Embraces new technology and leverages it to provide a more efficient and quality survey deliverable.
- Familiarity with state plane coordinates systems and geodetic calculations.
- Proficiency/Knowledge with in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads and TerraSolid
- Experience with aerial and drone lidar topography
- Experience with GPS, Total Station (robotic or conventional), laser levels and data collections systems.
- A valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Willingness to work in the office and in the field.
- Ability to travel out of town when required.
