Electrical Engineer

As Electrical Engineer you will own power, lighting, and control systems that keep buildings safe, sustainable, and code-compliant for San Diego clients who trust us to get it right the first time. Your work directly shapes the built environment and the communities we serve.
Performance Objectives
- Produce complete, coordinated electrical construction documents (power, lighting, fire alarm, controls) for 8–12 commercial and institutional projects per year, meeting 95 % of client and code milestones on the first submittal.
- Perform short-circuit, coordination, and arc-flash studies that identify and mitigate hazards before construction, delivering SKM or equivalent reports that clients and AHJs accept without revision.
- Integrate electrical models into Revit BIM so clashes are resolved in design, reducing RFIs and change orders by at least 30 % versus industry average.
- Specify energy-efficient lighting and renewable-ready infrastructure that help projects achieve Title 24 and LEED targets while staying within client budgets.
- Review shop drawings and conduct site observations that catch constructability issues early, keeping punch-list items under five per project.
- Mentor one junior engineer or intern each year and contribute to ACE Mentor San Diego so the next generation of designers learns from real work.
Environment & Resources
You report to a Principal Engineer and work alongside a tight-knit MEP team of 51–200. You will have full access to Revit, AutoCAD, SKM PowerTools, and IES lighting software plus the principals’ direct input on every job. Projects range from healthcare and labs to commercial and civic work throughout San Diego County.
Essential Qualifications
- BSEE or equivalent and California PE (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
- Five-plus years designing building electrical systems (480 V and below) including power distribution, lighting, and fire alarm.
- Proven ability to produce coordinated BIM models and construction documents that pass plan-check with minimal comments.
- Hands-on experience with NEC, Title 24, and NFPA 70E plus SKM or equivalent analysis software.
- Clear written and verbal communication that lets you explain technical decisions to architects, contractors, and owners.
