Plumbing Designer
We deliver precise technical designs that keep New York buildings functional, code-compliant, and on schedule. As Plumbing Designer you will turn complex mechanical requirements into coordinated systems that prevent costly field changes and keep projects moving. Your drawings and calculations will directly shape how water, waste, and gas systems perform in real construction.
Performance Objectives
- Produce complete plumbing design packages (plans, risers, details, and specs) for 8–12 concurrent projects within agreed milestone dates, achieving first-pass coordination with architecture and MEP teams.
- Size and layout domestic water, sanitary, storm, and gas systems that meet NYC plumbing code and energy requirements, documenting calculations so reviewers can approve without major revisions.
- Resolve clashes in BIM and 2D drawings before issuance, cutting RFIs related to plumbing by at least 30% on assigned jobs.
- Support construction by answering field questions within 24 hours and issuing accurate ASIs or sketches that keep crews productive.
- Standardize details and schedules that reduce drafting time on repeat building types while maintaining quality for high-rise, commercial, and mixed-use work.
- Mentor junior staff on code application and Revit/AutoCAD workflows so the team can scale output without sacrificing accuracy.
Environment & Resources
You will report to the MEP Design Manager and work inside a 51–200 person firm that handles building materials, real estate, telecommunications, and civil engineering projects across New York. Tools include Revit, AutoCAD, and standard hydraulic calculation software; you will have access to code libraries, manufacturer data, and a small production team. Budget and schedule decisions stay with project leadership; your role is to deliver technically sound documents on time.
Essential Qualifications
- Demonstrated ability to produce permit-ready plumbing drawings and calculations for commercial or multi-family buildings in New York or similar dense urban markets.
- Hands-on experience coordinating plumbing with architectural, structural, and other MEP disciplines in BIM or 2D environments.
- Working knowledge of NYC Plumbing Code, energy conservation requirements, and typical fixture/equipment selection.
- Track record of meeting drawing deadlines while reducing field conflicts through proactive clash detection.
- Clear written and verbal communication that lets contractors and reviewers act on your documents without extra clarification.
