Primary Responsibilities
- Performs planning and design tasks for a variety of transportation improvement projects under the direction of the Sr. Engineers and Project Managers
- Applies local, state, and federal design guidelines and standards to implement transportation, traffic, and drainage related designs.
- Utilizes design guidelines from IDOT, FHWA, ITE, NACTO, AASHTO and MUTCD to develop multimodal solutions and evaluate alternatives.
- Develops specifications and quantity estimates for transportation or site-civil related projects.
- Develops horizontal/vertical and cross-sectional geometry for roadway and/or drainage projects.
- Creates plans and bid documents for project deliverables using a variety of design and modeling tools including: MicroStation, Open Roads Designer, ArcGIS, HCS, Synchro and Excel.
- Coordinates with public/private utilities to document physical location and analyze potential conflicts.
- Assists with field data collection, field survey and construction inspection/documentation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering; EIT or PE are preferred.
- 2+ years of roadway and/or drainage design experience for municipal, county or state agency clients (IDOT, Tollway) is desired.
- Ability to apply transportation engineering principals to projects and work independently to complete assigned project tasks while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to draft technical memos, provide support for the creation of presentation and meeting materials, and work as part of a collaborative team.
- Experience with Open Roads Designer (ORD), MicroStation/Geopak, ArcGIS, HCS and Synchro is desired.
- Proficiency with MS Office is required.
- Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
