OBJECTIVE: Manage the Transportation Design program of work consisting of Roadway Design, Traffic Management, Pavement Markings, and Signing. Lead technical efforts, manage design staff, and conduct direct client contact to coordinate technical work and ensure
client satisfaction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Manager is responsible for certain aspects that contribute to the success of the practice area. The essential functions include (but are not limited to):
Project Execution Responsibilities:
➢Responsible for preparation and completion of discipline engineering designs that are responsive to project needs including the production of roadway design, traffic control and pavement marking plans, signing, quantities, cost estimates, construction administration and final specifications.
➢Plan and review the production of engineering drawings and specifications.
➢Conduct field observations and data collection activities.
➢Coordinate preparation of design details, plans, and drawings within assigned task areas.
➢Coordinate development of project design criteria, design calculations, construction details, quantities and cost estimates.
➢Assure work quality meets client expectations and internal QA/QC standards.
➢Manage projects and staff assigned by the Practice Leader.
➢Delegate responsibilities to staff and effectively communicate expectations.
➢Oversee work programs, provide leadership in project planning and strategy including general oversight and planning, project management, project implementation, and ensuring quality of work product.
➢Serve as a Senior Project Manager on larger and more complex projects.
➢Serve as a technical resource for staff and project managers on project issues.
Team Personnel Responsibilities:
➢Assist in hiring, training, mentoring, utilization, development of, and assignment of projects to team staff.
➢Make recommendations to increase productivity and efficiency within the design group.
➢Directly supervise team staff on projects.
➢Perform monthly “one-on-one” meetings with team staff, with a focus on personal and professional growth.
➢Perform quarterly reviews with team staff.
➢Ensure that routine company administrative policies are followed.
Financial Responsibilities:
➢Maintain project financial goals (utilization/profitability/backlog) for team’s projects.
➢Coordinate scope and pricing changes with the client.
➢Assist with accounts receivable and collections for the practice area.
➢Assist with monthly invoicing, booking, backlogs and be responsible for accuracy.
➢Assist with practice area budget, track actual expenses against budget, and understand differences.
Business Development Responsibilities:
➢Assist with marketing to existing clients and develop new clients, business leads, and new business plan alternatives as required to ensure the success of the practice area,
➢Prepare and/or coordinate RFP/RFQ proposal efforts and participate in interviews.
➢Seek out opportunities to become involved in and lead professional organizations, conferences, etc.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that routine company administrative policies are followed by assigned team(s) such as one-on-ones, quarterly check-ins, time sheets, expense reports, and other administrative requirements.
Ensure that all staff are properly trained, supervised, and equipped with the necessary tools and equipment to ensure their personal safety.
Be actively involved in the community and the profession (serve and lead).
COMPETENCIES:
Knowledge.
➢Advanced knowledge of state and federal guidelines used to produce design plans.
➢Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe products.
➢Advanced knowledge Microstation Geopack, Corridor Modeling, and Open Roads software.
➢Advanced knowledge of technical writing techniques.
➢Advanced understanding of A/E/C industry terminology and procedures.

REQUIRED (MINIMUM) QUALIFICATIONS:
Years of relevant work experience.
➢Ten (10) years or greater of progressive transportation design experience.
➢Five (5) years of previous project management experience.
Education.
➢Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
Certifications/Licenses.
➢Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) Required.
Driver’s License.
➢Valid Driver’s License is Required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working with NCDOT as a Client.
Experience working with Municipalities as a Client.
Involvement in Professional Organizations.
