Civil Design Engineer – Transportation
Position Summary
The Civil Design Engineer specializes in the preparation of detailed plan sets and conceptual design for roadway and utility infrastructure projects. This role supports transportation and municipal infrastructure improvements through technical design, drafting, and coordination using industry-standard platforms including Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and MicroStation. The ideal candidate has strong experience developing roadway alignments, water distribution systems, and sanitary sewer infrastructure from concept through final construction documents.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare comprehensive construction plan sets for roadway, water main, and sanitary sewer projects
- Develop conceptual roadway alignments, profiles, and cross sections
- Design water distribution systems including sizing, layout, and hydraulic considerations
- Design sanitary sewer systems including gravity mains, profiles, and utility coordination
- Develop grading and drainage plans to support roadway and utility infrastructure
- Perform quantity takeoffs and assist with cost estimates
- Coordinate with survey teams, utility companies, and regulatory agencies
- Assist with permitting and agency submittals
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and DOT standards
- Support project managers with schedule and design milestone deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field
- 3+ years of experience in civil design, transportation, or municipal infrastructure
- Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD Civil 3D
- OpenRoads Designer
- MicroStation
- Strong understanding of roadway geometry, profiles, and cross sections
- Working knowledge of water and sanitary sewer system design principles
- Familiarity with state DOT and municipal design standards
