Job Summary:
The Project Electrical Engineer works with the team in the development and completion of engineering projects focused in the municipal water and wastewater field. Typical projects will include water and wastewater treatment plants, wastewater pump stations, booster pump stations, or similar related municipal utility infrastructure. The Project Electrical Engineer will coordinate with the project manager, completing tasks within a specified budget and schedule.
Job Summary:
The Project Electrical Engineer contributes and works with the project team in the development and project completion of assigned engineering projects. The Project Electrical Engineer is responsible for completing project tasks within a specified budget and schedule and frequently interacts and works directly with clients. The Project Electrical Engineer will analyze processes and systems to identify ways to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs in collaboration with the project team.
WHAT TO EXPECT DAY-TO-DAY:
You’ll perform electrical engineering work including design, design review, construction support service for wastewater treatment plants and pumps stations. Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for bringing project from the design stage through to completion with multiple project team members.
- Leads electrical team to develop electrical plans, delegate tasks to junior engineers and provide guidance throughout the project duration.
- Performs QAQC and collaborates with other disciplines.
- Interacts and works directly with clients, conducts preliminary evaluations, prepares various reports, produces detailed technical specifications and drawing packages, and prepares permit submittals for engineering projects.
- Balances multiple tasks on multiple projects.
- Coordinates with the project team regarding RFIs, submittals, contract modifications, and other changes to the project.
- Analyzes processes and systems to identify ways to improve efficiency, increase quality, and reduce costs.
- Collaborates with the Project Managers to identify and troubleshoot problems.
- Coordinates with other engineering departments when necessary.
- Participates in site visits, agency meetings, and municipal meetings as needed.
WHAT YOU NEED TO BE QUALIFIED:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.
- Professional Engineer registration or the ability to acquire registration.
- 6-10 years’ professional experience required.
- Proven experience with design of medium voltage and low voltage electrical distribution systems including electrical equipment such as Motor Control Centers, Generators and Switchgears.
- Ability to produce single line diagrams, motor elementary diagrams and instrument loop wiring diagrams.
- Experience with Electrical Area classification plan development and ability to specify electrical equipment in classified areas.
- Experience with Generator sizing Tools such Caterpiller SpecSizer or Cumminis Powersuite and the ability to design full emergency backup systems.
- Ability to review electrical drawings designed by junior electrical designers and provide redlines and guidance.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
- Design and plan production experience utilizing AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical and/or Revit is required.
- Experience with Arc Flash software such as eTap or SKM is required.
- Extensive knowledge of the NEC and NFPA 780.
- Field investigative and start-up experience
- The ability to balance multiple work assignments on multiple projects at the same time is required.
- The ability to work alone but also effectively as part of a team is required.
- Requires process-oriented thinking with strong organizational and technical skills.
- Requires excellent communication, and the ability to take and understand directives from Project Engineers and Project Managers.
- The ability to complete work consistently, with moderate flexibility to accommodate varying demands from Project Managers is required.
- Candidates are required to have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record
- Candidates are required to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
