About the Role
The Associate Engineer (multiple openings) plays a key leading role on large engineering projects, managing and leading engineering projects from concept to completion, leading the conceptual design (developing system criteria, equipment room sizing, building stack, etc.) of all MEPFP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection) fieldwork projects, and guiding team through construction document issuance and project completion
Primary Responsibilities:
- Manage the review of shop drawings, RFI’s, Contractor change orders; site visits and punch lists to verify that designs are being implemented accurately.
- Establish project schedule for project team ensuring appropriate use of resources while adhering to deadlines; follow up on progress and completion of tasks.
- Present and explain project design to internal management and client counterparts.
- Collaborate and confer with engineers and other personnel regarding technical information, operating procedures, design proposals, deadlines, site visits, and deliverables to ensure project success.
- Prepare design proposals/add services; initiate review and approval by Partner.
- Update and utilize established checklists and design guidelines during design of projects to maintain JB&B’s standards.
- Oversee Internal Design Review Process and Procedures (DRPP) document for all projects; provide feedback to team members based on Quality Design Evaluation (QDE) metric reviews.
- Prepare technical letters/memos to address specific project design issues, challenges and code interpretations.
- Analyze design proposals and procedures and collaborate with project accountants to determine feasibility costs and timely billing. Evaluate engineering process issues and collaborate with project team members and stakeholders to generate effective solutions that will maximize operational efficiency.
- Manage and supervise a multiple person team with a mix of engineers, project managers, and/or technicians including review of contract documents, calculations, shop drawings, design work, and routing of major distribution.
- Assist in business development by pursuing additional scope or new work including participation in client presentations.
- The position requires travel up to 10 % of the work schedule for short-term assignments at various unanticipated project locations throughout the United States based on business needs.
- Position allows for 100% remote work in any U.S. state or in-house at a JBB office location in New York, NY; Boston, MA; or Philadelphia, PA.
Minimum Qualifications:
- U.S. Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related Engineering field, or the foreign degree equivalent.
- 5 years’ progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
- Affiliation with one of the following major professional organizations – ASME or ASHRAE – at the time of hire.
- Experience designing heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing and fire protection systems from initial conceptual design to completion using Autodesk AutoCAD and Autodesk Revit.
- Experience reviewing QA/QC process coordination within mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) disciplines.
- Experience preparing RFIs, preparing engineering deliverables, drawings, construction documents and design specifications to determine cost and feasibility.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit BIM 360, Solid Works, ANSYS Workbench.
- Knowledge of Trane Trace 700, Carrier HAP, ComCheck, Greenheck’s CAPS, Title-24, Energysoft.
