With limited supervision from senior staff, independently performs detailed phases of design engineering for a project of moderate size and complexity to design and engineer electrical and life-safety systems to assure safe, reliable, and energy efficient operation. This requires the application of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria where the scope is already outlined by the Lead Project Engineer and/or the Project Manager. Candidate must be fully competent in all conventional aspects of design engineering and be capable of planning and conducting tasks requiring independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
1. Performs field verification duties to validate the capacity, configuration, and condition of existing electrical distribution and life-safety systems.
2. Performs moderate design tasks and completes projects, including design and selection of electrical distribution equipment, with little supervision.
3. Develops specifications, working drawings, instructions, and other related documents of a complex project of moderate size.
4. Reviews vendor equipment selections for electrical equipment to be used in the system to assure compliance with specifications, code and requirements of the project.
5. Consults with construction personnel concerning design constructability as related to field conditions, sequencing, and scheduling of construction activities.
6. Produces drawings, specifications, reports, and analyses to meet project scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements.
7. Communicates, coordinates, and collaborates with other engineers who assist with particular projects.
8. May plan, schedule, coordinate, and oversee the work of lower-level electrical designers who assist with particular projects.
9. Responsible for keeping current on new electrical products and must be able to judge their suitability for specific uses. Should compile and communicate with product representatives on a regular basis.
10. Welcomes technical challenges and focuses on practical engineered solutions.
11. Respects and continuously promotes positive communications and professional relationships with other team members to foster a successful working environment.
12. Maintains professional discipline to see all tasks through from start to finish and/or to the client’s satisfaction.
